Join us as we explore the amazing mysteries and lore of Echo Park’s surrounding communities. We will tour Evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson’s Angelus Temple on the Lake, which she built almost a century ago, and whose beautiful home and administrative headquarters for her world-wide Four Square Gospel mission, the Parsonage, which we will tour with Jackie Miller, a lifelong member of the Church and senior Interpretor.

We’ll talk about the heartbreaking battle to rescue Taix Restaurant on Sunset Blvd, and take a tour around the neighboring Carrol Ave National Register District to see the frippery and entablatures on Victorians.

So come join us and see what all the fuss is about!

CHECK-IN DETAILS:

Check-in time is 10am at the entrance to the Parsonage at the intersection of Park Ave & Lemoyne St. We will begin at 10.30am. We ask you to arrive then because it takes a while to check everyone in, as we are requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination status for the tour (see below for details).

Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination:

Please be able to provide an up to date vaccination card or digital vaccination passport upon check in. This is required. We mean it. Everyone on the walking tour has to show proof of vaccination.

PARKING & PUBLIC TRANSIT:

There are two City operated parking lots just a block from the Parsonage:

There is no nearby MTA station, so we provide a link to help you with public transit options.

WHAT TO BRING & WHAT TO EXPECT:

This is a 2½-3 hour walking tour. We’ll cover about 3 miles, and we’ll also be in and out of the Parsonage Museum in small groups.  The Parsonage is climate controlled and has a bathroom available.  Wear a hat, as it might be warm. Wear sensible shoes.

Bring a bottle of water. We will have a cooler of cold water along with us and there will be ample opportunity to refill yours.

Bring your smartphone. We’ll provide a URL for viewing photos relevant to locations along the tour as we go.

Bring a mask. Please bring a mask. We expect and will insist that for everyone’s safety, when we enter buildings we put on masks. This tour will have 40-50 people on it and we have to take precautions, for the sake of everyone on the tour. Just as we set our pace based on the needs and abilities of the whole group, we are doing the same with mask compliance.

If you don’t have a mask upon your arrival at check-in we will provide one, but please endeavor to leave the house for this tour with a mask, it shows you are paying attention.
